The Walking Paths

Once dead in my sin. Now walking with Jesus.

Letter To Someone Who Is Down

Letter written to a friend, or just another person, meant to encourage and lift, elevate, and shed light in the darkness when gloom and sorrow are present.

Letter To Someone Who Is Down

Brother, I hear the weight in your words. Maybe you don’t even know how to say them out loud yet, but I can feel them: the ache of grief, the sting of failure, the whisper that says you’re not enough.

I want to tell you something straight: what you’re facing is a spiritual attack. Whether it’s the enemy leaning in close with his lies, or the wounds of your past pressing hard, or just the heaviness of grief that seems to multiply—it all works the same way. It tries to pull you down, make you believe you’re forsaken.

But listen—those are not the words of Jesus. That’s the counterfeit. That’s the hiss in the garden.

Here’s the truth:

• You are not alone. The Lord sees you, knows you, and is near to you. “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18)

• You are not a failure. The enemy calls your scars disqualifications. Jesus calls them testimony. “They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.” (Revelation 12:11)

• Your faith is not cancelled by your weakness. Your faith allows you to be made stronger through God. Paul said, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)

So what do you do when the heaviness won’t let up?

1. Pray raw. Say it plain: “I need You, Lord. Help me, Abba.” That’s not weakness. That’s warfare.

2. Name the lies. Answer them with Scripture. “I can do all things through Christ” (Philippians 4:13). “God chose the foolish to shame the wise” (1 Corinthians 1:27).

3. Remember the saints. David, Elijah, Jeremiah, even Jesus Himself wrestled in the dark. If God did not forsake them, He will not forsake you.

4. Speak His Name. Out loud. Clear and sharp. “In the name of Jesus Christ, I belong to Him, and no weapon formed against me shall prosper.”

5. Reach for light. A hawk overhead, your spouse’s hand, a heavy metalcore breakdown, a Psalm at midnight—whatever pulls you back toward Him.

Your testimony doesn’t need polish. It needs honesty. The world doesn’t need a salesman for Jesus. It needs someone who can say, “I was drowning, and He pulled me out.”

So let me leave you with the same words that have been steadying me over the years:

“I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds.”

— Psalm 77:11–12

Hold to that. Remember. Even now, especially now.

You are not alone.

⚔️ A Short Warfare Prayer

In the name of Jesus Christ, I reject every lie of the enemy.

I am not forsaken—I am chosen.

I am not weak—I am strong in the Lord.

I am not unworthy—I am redeemed by the blood of the Lamb.

Lord Jesus, surround me with Your light.

Drive out every darkness, every shadow, every whisper.

You are my Rock, my Shield, my Deliverer.

I belong to You, Abba.

Help me, hold me, guide me through.

In Jesus’ mighty name.

Amen.
