The Walking Paths

Once dead in my sin. Now walking with Jesus.

Simple Plan. Difficult Execution.

Being a Christian might seem like a simple choice to many people. A Christian is a follower of Jesus Christ. A Christian man has chosen to follow Jesus and to make Him Lord of his life, to believe in Him — to believe that He is the unblemished Lamb of God who was killed on the cross, a man who lived a sinless life, born of virgin human mother and Heavenly Father, part God, part mortal, who died so that all humankind could be redeemed and washed of sin. Follow God’s commands, love God with all your heart, soul, and mind, love your neighbors as you love yourself. Walk with God.

It sounds simple.

But what sounds simple is very difficult to do in practice.

In one of my most favorite movies, 1999’s The Matrix, the character Morpheus, played by Lawrence Fishburne, tells the character Neo, played by Keanu Reeves, that “One day, Neo, you’re going to have to realize there is a difference between knowing the path… and walking the path.”

To know what it means to be a Christian, to be a follower of Jesus, is not the same as walking the path, following Jesus, walking not only hand-in hand with Him, but walking in His footsteps and obeying His commands.

To walk the path of following Jesus one must walk in the light. One must be the light. One must light the way.

“Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed.”
‭‭John‬ ‭3‬:‭20‬ ‭NIV‬‬

In the days when Jesus lived, say about a little over two thousand years ago, if you were a follower of Jesus you could have literally just followed Him around. You could have watched Him and you could have tried to do what He did and to not do what He did not.

You could have listened to His words right from His mouth to your ears. You could have asked Him questions and listened to His answers. You could have asked Him to guide you and show you the way.

But we don’t live in the time of Jesus’ ministry. We live right now when He is risen. We live with our gift of the Holy Spirit to guide us. We live in a time with not only countless versions and styles of printed Bibles but digital versions we can access with our devices just about anywhere. We live in a world that is saturated with a culture so far from the spirit that we can become lost in it and forget about God.

So how exactly do I “walk the path” with Jesus in this world?

How do I “walk in the light”?

How do I “be the light”?

How do I “light the way”?

What do these commands truly mean when we think of them practically?

This is what this blog is really about. The answers come as I walk my own path with Jesus, and it is my intention to share what I learn along the way on this blog. I hope to be able to do this more often and share on a more regular basis as time goes on.

Thank you for joining me on my path.

As always, glory to our Father. Thank You, Jesus.
