The Walking Paths

Once dead in my sin. Now walking with Jesus.

God Uses Everything

“God will use the very thing that was meant to destroy you to deliver you.” (source unknown)

“David said to Saul, ‘Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine; your servant will go and fight him.’ Saul replied, ‘You are not able to go out against this Philistine and fight him; you are only a young man, and he has been a warrior from his youth.’”

1 Samuel 17:32-33 NIV

The fate of David, a lowly shepherd boy — to defeat, in single combat, the giant Philistine, Goliath, a huge, tough, seasoned warrior — was to be delivered to greatness by God. David’s brothers, his father, and maybe everyone present in those moments, especially Goliath, believed that Goliath would destroy this young man. But we know that’s not what happened. David knew that His God could make anything possible. He had confidence in that promise. He trusted God, and God delivered.

Why is this story relevant? David and Goliath?

The story of David and Goliath shows how God can take what appears to be a hopeless situation and turn it around to a victory. And when we go through struggles, troubles, and serious challenges we need to know that God can turn any situation around for good. We need to know that He is with us even in our struggles and troubles — that we can overcome them because with God we know that He has overcome the world. He’s never lost a battle and He never will. We can rise above any setback. With God on our side anything is possible.

‘When you’re going through Hell keep on going.’

God is working. He is with you. He might not stop the bad things from happening to you or from happening in your life. He might allow you to fail, lose, screw up, fall down. But know and trust that God will use it.

He might not heal your loved one. He might not save that child. He might not stop that semi even though the driver is trying so hard to bring it to a halt. He might not interfere when that man is in his moment and misses it. But you can trust that God uses everything. He will use any situation, no matter how painful or hopeless it is or may seem, to reveal His love and faithfulness.

When it seems everything is breaking apart and you are suffering and in pain, God is doing something. Even when you don’t see it, even when you don’t feel it, even when it doesn’t make sense and you don’t understand it knows that He is a miracle worker.

God is a waymaker and a light in the darkness. Don’t let go of your trust in Him. Don’t stop obeying His commands. Don’t stop praying. Don’t stop talking to Him. Don’t stop praising and worshipping Him. Give Him the glory for the miracles that He does through His people.

God does not “control” everything that happens in this world. He doesn’t “control” the choices His people make, the things they do or say, the paths they “follow”. But you can trust that nothing that happens does so without passing through His hands.

God uses everything that happens to fulfill His purposes.
